Revelstoke Local Food Initiative – Food Commons Cleanup
The LFI and Indigenous Friendship Society (IFSR) is developing a 2.5 acre piece of land on Powerhouse road into a community farm that will be used to grow food, educate and increase food security for Revelstoke residents.

Volunteer and Stay for Free
Thanksgiving back is an opportunity to see Revelstoke from a new perspective and have a positive impact while you travel.
Immerse yourself in our local culture and work alongside residents to lend a helping hand to our local non-profit organizations by volunteering for a registered project.
As a thank-you, you can get the costs of your accommodation during the event dates reimbursed up to a value of $400 when you book two or more nights!
Project Details
Revelstoke Local Food Initiative – Food Commons Cleanup
In its current state, the land is unusable for farming or garden beds. This project will pull community and thanksgiving-back participants together to move piles, and create space where food can be planted in the spring. More hands make light work for food security and the community farm 🙂

The first step in participating in Thanksgiving Back 2024 is to decide which of our local organizations projects you would like to volunteer for.

Register
To be eligible for the reimbursement, visitors must:
- Have a permanent address outside of Revelstoke
- Register for and complete work on a Registered Volunteer Project
- Book a stay of 2 nights or more directly with an accommodator. Explore options using Tourism Revelstoke’s search engine.
- Complete a post-visit survey to help us understand the project’s impacts on our community.

Step 3: Submit your Hotel Receipt
To confirm your registration, you must submit a screenshot or picture of your hotel reservation within 72 Hours.
If we do not receive this, your registration will be declined and your spot will be made available for other volunteers.
A few things to keep in mind:
Please book your accommodation directly with your accommodator and avoid using sites such as expedia or booking.com. Booking direct helps support local businesses by eliminating large fees associated with online booking platforms which can sometimes be up to 30%.
Hotel dates must be for the same duration of your volunteer event and a minimum of 2 nights.

Additional Terms & Conditions:
Accommodation reservations must take place on the same dates as the service project you are registered for, but can extend longer than 2 nights.
Longer reservations will still only be eligible up to a maximum of $400 CAD.
Accommodations should be booked directly with accommodators and not through a third party platform such as expedia or booking.com.
Double occupancy reservations are only eligible for one reimbursement.
Because this is an incentive to encourage travel to Revelstoke, the reimbursement is not available to people with a Revelstoke permanent address.
Each person must complete the post-visit survey to be eligible for reimbursement.
Reimbursements may take up to 8 weeks after the event to process.
If full and correct payment information is not provided by the deadline, you will not be eligible for reimbursement.

To be eligible for reimbursement, all participants must complete a post-visit survey to help us understand the project’s impacts on our community.
Please make sure you have your bank details handy, you will need to submit a void cheque as part of the survey to allow us to reimburse you!
