Project Details
Revelstoke Reach Invasives
Invasive species can reduce biodiversity and cause the extinction of endangered species, interfere with forest regeneration and impact water quality. The goal of this project is to focus on high priority invasive species management in the Revelstoke Reach – a riparian conservation area of concern in the North Columbia which have high values for migratory birds, western painted turtles and other wildlife. The multi-year control project will include the following high priority invasives: Blueweed (Echium vulgare), Bohemian knotweed (Fallopia x bohemica), Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera), Himalayan blackberry (Impatiens glandulifera), hoary alyssum (Berteroa incana) and leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula).
Dates and Times:
Saturday, September 28, 2024 – 10:00am – 2:00 pm
Labor intensity (1-5): 2.5, some tasks may have more of a physical demand than others. There will be walking along mostly flat but loose and unlevel ground. The bulk of the work is manually removing the invasive plants and then removing them from the site. This may involve some lifting and loading maybe around a 4 of labor intensity.
Age Restrictions – Family friendly, all ages welcome
Approximate shift start / end times: 10 am -2 pm with a lunch break.
Indoors, outdoors or both: Outdoors, a small 10×10 tent to huddle under is provided, but participants will need to come prepared for working outside.
