A dynamic and unique display of specimens from Howe Sound /Átl’ḵa7tsem
After exploring the underground galleries and the award-winning BOOM! show, visitors can head to the Terra Lab to experience this dynamic temporary exhibit: ORE and ORCAS Howe Sound /Átl’ḵa7tsem: A RECOVERING ECOSYSTEM.
The exhibit examines the impact of copper contamination on the marine food chain, from plankton to predators, and highlights ongoing remediation efforts that help protect the Howe Sound ecosystem. Guests can view a variety of specimens from the region—including a real killer whale skeleton!
In August 1997, the Strawberry Isle Marine Research Society recovered a deceased killer whale off the coast of Tofino, BC. With community support, they preserved her bones and created a travelling educational display to inspire awareness and action around marine conservation.
ORE and ORCAS Howe Sound is included with museum admission and runs from October 20, 2025, through February 28, 2026.
