Salute the Sockeye

Dates are October 9th to  25th (two week festival)

Opening and closing ceremonies on the Friday 9th and Sunday 25th

Location: Tsútswecw Provincial Park (chuts-weck)

Lead Hosts in partnership are Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw and the Adams River Sockeye Society (TARSS)

The 5 local bands that are also part of hosting and providing cultural activities:

5 bands include: Skwlāx te Secwépemcúl̓ecw, Adams Lake Band, Splatsin, Shuswap Band and Neskonlith Band.

Other partnerships include: BC Parks, the Pacific Salmon Foundation and Fisheries and Oceans Canada

It will be a 2-week festival that will have full activation throughout

Guided Tours daily

Food trucks daily (and Bannock sales)

Cultural activities such as: drumming, dancing, storytelling, and language learning daily (content will vary depending on availability)

Each of the 5 bands will have days where they specifically have learning opportunities about what the sockeye run means to their community and for their culture

The 2022 Salute to the Sockeye 3-week event saw over 50,000 people visit Tsútswecw Provincial Park; we are predicting about 30k in attendance, as we are making the event a week shorter this year. We see schools of various grades and university levels, tourist bus traffic, and general community interest.

If anything, this is a great shoulder season event that authentically draws a large group of people to the interior. It is also the largest inland sockeye salmon run in North America (other places on the island see some larger runs).
